Bachelor of Nursing (BN) is an undergraduate academic degree program in the field of nursing. The program typically takes four years to complete and prepares students for careers as registered nurses (RNs). The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, maternal and child health, mental health, and community health.
The BN program focuses on both theoretical and practical aspects of nursing. Students engage in hands-on training in clinical settings and have the opportunity to work with patients in a variety of healthcare settings, such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community health clinics. The program also emphasizes the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
Upon completion of the BN program, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) to become licensed as RNs. They can then work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, schools, and community health organizations. Additionally, many BN graduates choose to continue their education by pursuing advanced degrees, such as a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).
