Deakin University

Deakin University is a public university in Victoria, Australia, which was established in 1974, named after the second Prime Minister of Australia- Alfred Deakin. It has campuses across Melbourne's Burwood suburb, Geelong Waurn Ponds, Geelong Waterfront and Warrnambool, along with the online Cloud Campus. Deakin also boasts of learning centres in Dandenong and Werribee, all located in the state of Victoria.  

 

As of 2021, Deakin University is ranked among the top 1% of universities in the world, is ranked one of the top 26 young universities in the world, ranks 3rd for Sport Science in the world and is included in the list of top 29 universities for Nursing and Education in the world. Deakin's Ranking according to the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is as follows- #3 in Victoria #15 in Australia #16 in Oceania #272 in the world In 2020, Deakin University was ranked #55 in 100 under 50 by Times Higher Education for top universities under the age of 50, in the same category Deakin ranked #6 in Australia and #1 in the state of Victoria. Since 2010, Deakin University has consistently held onto the highest student satisfaction rating title out of all the universities in Victoria.

 

Whereas in the QS Top 50 Under 50, 2020 for universities that are under 50 years old, Deakin University ranked #26 worldwide, #6 in Australia and #2 in the state of Victoria. The Graduate Management Association of Australia (GMAA) in 2009, 2013 and 2015 bestowed upon Deakin University's Master of Business  Administration and Master of Business Administration (International) courses the highest score of five stars, which placed them in the top of Australia's MBA courses. Furthermore, Deakin University's Master of Business Administration ranked in the QS World's Top 200 in 2018 and 2020. Since 2016, Deakin has been ranked in the top 2% of the world's universities in the Shanghai Ranking's Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), Times Higher Education and QS World University Rankings. 

 

The University is divided into four faculties, which cover Arts and Education, Business and Law, Health, and Science, Engineering and Built Environment.

 

  • The Faculty of Arts and Education consists of the schools which cover Education, Social Sciences, Humanities, Communication and the Creative Arts. The Faculty of Arts also contains the Institute of Koorie Education 

 

  • The Faculty of Health consists of the School of Medicine, and various schools which contain nursing and midwifery, exercise and nutrition sciences, psychology, subjects such as occupational therapy, social work, and health economics are incorporated into the School of Health and Social Development. 

 

  • The Deakin University's Faculty of Business and Law, and the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment consist of the Deakin University School of Law and the Deakin Business School and the schools incorporate architecture, information technology, engineering, and life and environmental sciences.

Campus Information

Deakin University's largest campus is in Burwood located alongside Gardiner's Creek parklands between Elgar Road on the northwest border and Mount Scopus Memorial College on the east border. In 2020, the campus has nearly 31,975 undergraduate and postgraduate students on-campus.

Melbourne Burwood Campus

Geelong Waterfront Campus is Deakin's newest campus, based in Corio Bay, and located in the central business district of Geelong. The campus was originally built in 1893 as the Dalgety's Woolstores, since then the building of the campus has been renovated and currently has Deakin University’s schools of Architecture and Built Environment, Health and Social Development, Psychology, and Nursing and Midwifery, and the Faculty of Business and Law.

Geelong Waterfront Campus

The original campus of Deakin University is located in the regional city of Geelong in the suburb of Waurn Ponds, 72 kilometres southwest of Melbourne. In 2020, the campus has nearly 8,382 undergraduate and postgraduate students on-campus.

Waurn Ponds Campus

The Warrnambool campus of Deakin University is located on the banks of the Hopkins River in the city of Warrnambool. The 94-hectare (230-acre) site is approximately 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from the Warrnambool CBD with an on-campus student population of more than 520 (2020) pursuing courses in arts, law, business, environment, marine biology, education, health sciences, psychology, management, and nursing.
