Mechanical engineers design and build anything with moving components, such as automobile gearboxes, prosthetic devices, gas turbines, wind turbines, robots, and machine tools. Mechanical engineering topics covered include mechanics, dynamics, fluids, thermodynamics, materials, digital engineering, computer-aided design, electrical principles, finite element analysis, manufacturing, product development, and assembly line modelling. Teesside mechanical engineering students can participate in extracurricular events such as the Design Challenge, Formula Student, and Formula Student AI. The Institution of Mechanical Engineers has recognised this degree under licence from the Engineering Council in preparation for future registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
