Teesside Institution, founded in 1930, is an open technical university affiliated with the University Alliance. Previously, the university was known as the Constantine Technical University. It was granted university status in 1992, and the degree programmes offered at the institution were recognised by the University of London. Graham R. Dawbarn, a well-known London architect, planned and built the university's first technical building. He is well noted for his contributions to the development of Cambridge's Corpus Christie College. Teesside University was also one of the first in the United Kingdom to implement the Further and Higher Education Act. Following the 1990s, the institution had a tremendous increase in the number of students. According to the 2020/21 HESA student record, Teesside University's main campus is in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire in North East England, and it has over 21,000 students studying in the UK.
The university's primary areas of study include engineering, metallurgy, and chemistry and its research is organised in five subject areas. In terms of research, the institution provides a variety of study paths that lead to the degrees of MPhil, PhD, MProf, and DProf.

Teesside University established its first Darlington campus at the old Eastbourne Secondary School in Darlington's Eastbourne neighbourhood. Teesside University is located on the south banks of the River Tees in the borough of Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England. The A19 and A66 highways provide transportation linkages. The main entrance of the University is located on the site of the ancient Constantine College building, which is flanked by the Waterhouse clock tower. Campus Heart is the most recent phase of investment on the Middlesbrough campus, with a total expenditure of £30 million. This project began in 2014 and features The Curve, a £20 million structure with a 200-seat lecture theatre and 1,476 square metres (15,890 square feet) of teaching and learning space. It is located in a pedestrianised and manicured area that serves as a focal point for the university.
