Aston University

Aston University is an English public research university located in the heart of Birmingham. Aston began in 1895 as the Birmingham Municipal Technical School before becoming the United Kingdom's first College of Advanced Technology in 1956. On April 22, 1966, Queen Elizabeth II granted Aston University its royal charter. In the United Kingdom, there were two types of universities: public research universities and Russell Group universities. Universities, Aston is a public research university that focuses on professor research and graduate students, providing a unique approach to further education or teaching. These universities tended to place a greater emphasis on the practicality of education and how to apply what they learned in the classroom to the workplace. Aston University was named a finalist for the University of the Year in the Times Higher Education Awards 2021 in September 2021. The Guardian named Aston University "University of the Year" in 2020, and the Aston Students' Union received the "Buildings That Inspire" award. In 2020, Aston University was named "Outstanding Entrepreneurial University" by the Times Higher Education Awards.

Aston restructured its Schools into three Colleges in early 2020, notably combining the School of Languages and Social Sciences with Aston Business School and the School of Life and Health Sciences with Aston Medical School. Additional restructuring occurred in 2021 after the University agreed to keep its History and Translation Studies courses. The following are the resulting Colleges, Schools, and Departments.
