University of Manchester

Manchester University is a public research university located in Manchester, England. The main campus is located on Oxford Road, south of Manchester City Centre. The University of Manchester is a red brick university, born out of the late-nineteenth-century municipal university movement. The Victoria University of Manchester and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) merged in 2004 to establish the current University of Manchester. This came after a century of collaboration between the two institutions. Manchester University is a member of the Russell Group, the N8 Group, and the International Universities Research Association. The University of Manchester has had 25 Nobel laureates among its past and present students and employees, the fourth-highest number of any single university in the United Kingdom. The Manchester Museum, The Whitworth (art gallery), the John Rylands Library, the Tabley House Collection, and the Jodrell Bank Observatory—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—are all owned and operated by the university.

The University of Manchester is the country's third-largest university (following The Open University and University College London). International students from 160 different nations attend the University of Manchester.

The University of Manchester is divided into three main faculties-

Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health- The faculty is divided into the School of Biological Sciences, the School of Medical Sciences and the School of Health Sciences.

Faculty of Science and Engineering- There are two schools within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Mechanical, Aerospace, and Civil Engineering are among the departments of the School of Engineering. Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, Materials and Mathematics make up the School of Natural Sciences.

Faculty of Humanities- The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures (which includes Archaeology, Art History & Visual Studies, Classics and Ancient History, Drama; English and American Studies; History; Linguistics; Modern Languages; Museology; Music; Religions and Theology, and the University Language Centre), as well as the Schools of Combined Studies, Education, Environment and Development, Architecture, Law, Social Sciences, and the Manchester Business School, are all part of the Faculty of Humanities. In collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University, the Faculty of Humanities also manages the Manchester School of Architecture (MSA), and MSA students are classified as students of both universities.

Research-

Manchester has a long history of being associated with high scientific achievement: the university and its constituent former institutions had a total of 25 Nobel laureates among their students and faculty, the third highest number of any single university in the United Kingdom and the ninth highest number of any university in Europe. Furthermore, two of the top ten discoveries by university professors and researchers were made at the university, according to an academic poll. The university was placed fifth in the UK in terms of research power and eighth for grade point average quality of staff contributed among multi-faculty institutions in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (tenth when including specialist institutions). The university was placed fifth in the UK in terms of research power and sixteenth in terms of grade point average quality of personnel submitted among multi-faculty institutions in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (seventeenth when including specialist institutions). Manchester is part of a "golden diamond" of research-intensive UK universities (adding Manchester to the Oxford–Cambridge–London "Golden Triangle"), with the sixth highest research income of any English university (after Oxford, UCL, Cambridge, Imperial, and King's College London).

Rankings-

The University of Manchester is the most targeted university by the top 100 graduate employers in the UK, according to High Fliers' 2020 Graduate Market Review. The University of Manchester has been ranked as the world's 27th top university by QS as of 2021. The university was placed 6th in the United States.

In the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2020, the University of Manchester was rated 36th. On this list, it was ranked 5th among UK universities. In Reuters' ranking of the World's Most Innovative Universities, the university was ranked fourth in the country in 2019.

Manchester has a formidable reputation encompassing most fields, but most notably in the biological sciences, engineering, humanities, economics, sociology, and the social sciences," according to The Sunday Times in 2006. The Times Higher Education Awards 2010 presented Manchester with a major prize for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts.

The Financial Times placed the Alliance Manchester Business School 3rd in the UK, 10th in Europe, and 30th in the world in their global MBA rankings in 2017.
