Media Design School

Media Design School (MDS), established in 1998, located in the central Auckland area, New Zealand, is a private tertiary institution that offers practical and theoretical training in several unique areas like graphic and motion design, 3D animation and visual effects, game programming, game art, digital media, and creative advertising. It is currently the most awarded private tertiary provider in New Zealand for digital and creative technology qualifications. In 2020, the school was also ranked as New Zealand's #1 Animation School by Animation Career Review and among the top three creative media and entertainment schools in the Southern Hemisphere by The Rookies.

In recent times, MDS is known as one of the most reputable institutes in the country that offers digital and creative technology qualifications. The programs offered by the institute are approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA. Its qualifications are approved by New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). It offers courses from Level 6 and 7 diplomas through to Level 8 and 9 postgraduate certificates and a Masters's programme

Media Design School was the first tertiary institution in the Southern Hemisphere to offer a dedicated programme of study for 3D animation using industry-standard computer graphics software. To date, Media Design School is the only school in New Zealand to have partnered with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s PlayStation First Academic Development Programme, giving its students the opportunity to develop games for the PlayStation platform and industry recognition of the quality of their programmes.

MDS’s faculty and students have cemented Media Design School's reputation as New Zealand's most awarded tertiary institute for digital and creative technology qualifications by creating work that is consistently regarded among the very best in the world. The Colmar Brunton 2014 Employer Claims Survey showed that New Zealand employers rate Media Design School as the top tertiary institute for supplying graduates with the technical skills necessary to be a valuable employees.
