Campus Information

The main Hamilton campus is spread over 64 hectares of landscaped gardens and lakes and includes extensive sporting and recreational areas. Originally farmland, the campus was designed by architect John Blake-Kelly in 1964. The open space landscaping contains extensive native plantings, including a fernery, centred around three lakes. The campus features administrative offices, laboratories, classrooms, libraries, residences and recreational facilities. It also owns a satellite campus in Tauranga. The library complex of the university consists of three libraries across the campuses. These libraries possess over a million print volumes and about 275,000 e-resources to support teaching, research and learning. Other facilities featured on each campus include a gym, medical centre, athletic fields, a student centre, a dairy and swimming pools.

Hamilton Campus

The University of Waikato previously shared campuses with Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology in Tauranga at Windemere in the central city. In March 2019, the University opened a stand-alone campus in the central city. The university manages two accommodations in Tauranga, including Mayfair Court Apartments and Durham Mews Apartments. Facilities offered at these accommodation units include televisions, free Internet connectivity, leisure centres, games rooms, computer rooms, paid parking and laundry services. The university renders a shuttle service to students and employees. Other modes of transport used on the campus include bicycles, cars, bikes and public vehicles.
