The University of Auckland, based in 1883, is a public research university located in one of New Zealand’s major cities- Auckland and was formally established as a constituent college of the University of New Zealand and originally was housed in a disused courthouse. Whereas far from its humble roots, it now is the largest university by enrollment in New Zealand, hosting about 40,000 students on five Auckland campuses with the City Campus, located in central Auckland, hosting the bulk of students and faculties. There are eight faculties, including a law school, as well as three associated research institutes. In the QS Stars rating, the University of Auckland is rated as a Five Stars Plus institution for excellence in the categories: Research, Employability, Teaching, Facilities, Internationalization, Innovation and Inclusiveness. It is also the only New Zealand university ranked in the top 100 in the QS World University Rankings and the top 200 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
While most students attend the main City Campus, located in the heart of Auckland close to the city's main transport hubs, the bustling central business district, shops, theatres and social scene, the University of Auckland has several campuses in Auckland and one in Whangārei in the Northland Region. Among the numerous, some are- the Epsom Campus which is the main teacher training campus, the Grafton Campus with the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, School of Pharmacy and School of Optometry and Vision Science, Newmarket Campus which has built an engineering research space and a civil structures hall, the Tai Tokerau Campus in Whangārei which offers teacher education courses to the Northland community.
The University of Auckland, offers a total of 162 programs in 24 different fields, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees, in addition to the preparation and conjoint programs. Furthermore, the University of Auckland also offers 360 International exchange programs, and students can choose to study in any of the 128 partner universities in 27 countries.
With a student to faculty ratio of 12, the University of Auckland has more than 9,900 international students from 120 different countries, providing for a diverse and bubbling hotpot of different communities giving prospective students an enriching experience, added to that is the employment rate of 96% for graduates of the University of Auckland.
This City Campus in the Auckland CBD has the majority of the students and faculties. It covers 16 hectares and has a range of amenities including cafes, health services, libraries, childcare facilities and a sports and recreation centre.
