Unitec Institute of Technology is the largest institute of technology in Auckland, New Zealand. The institute was established in 1976 as Carrington Technical Institute but later in 1987, it was renamed to Carrington Polytechnic. Finally, in 1994, the institute was called the ‘Unitec Institute of Technology. In 1999, the institute applied for University status but due to some issues, it remained as an Institute of Technology. Now, the academic institute is a part of the International Association of Universities. Unitec Institute of Technology has 16,844 students and study programmes from certificate to postgraduate degree levels across a range of subjects. The main campus is situated in Mt Albert while a secondary Waitākere campus is situated in Henderson and there are various pop-ups throughout the North Shore. It also offers programs overseas. The core campus of the institute situated in Mt Albert has several major academic and departmental buildings.
Unitec has a Learning Centre that provides support to improve academic reading and writing. The institute also has a Student Council that connects with staff and services, government, and media for the benefit of students and their interests. Unitec focuses on improving students’ experiences by collaborating with management and services.
