Study at Australian National University - Celebrate Your Success

Located in Australia’s capital city Canberra, the Australian National University is a public research university, founded in 1946, a world-leading university and the only university in the country which was created by the Parliament of Australia. ANU was reorganised in 2006 to create seven separate colleges, which include- arts and social sciences, business and economics, engineering and computer science, law, medicine, biology and environment, and physical and mathematical sciences. The Australian National University’s focus on meritorious research and education guarantees that its scholars are in popular demand across the globe and are well-equipped to handle complex contemporary changes.

With its location pointing to its unique history, thanks to the universities’ ties with the Australian Government and its immense contribution in being a resource for the people of Australia. The main campus of ANU is located in Acton, the heart of Australia’s capital city- Canberra, consisting of 358 acres (1.45 km2) of mostly parkland with university buildings landscaped within. There are eight buildings or complexes of buildings currently listed on the Commonwealth Heritage List (CHL) and following the ANU Heritage Study (2012) over 60 more buildings/complexes have been identified as meeting the threshold for listing on the Commonwealth Heritage List. ANU is also reputable for being a sustainable campus owing to more than 10,000 trees on its campus, including over 500 considered to be of exceptional significance because of their age, history or species and over 300 remnant trees predating European occupation of the area.

There are also four other campuses including Kioloa Coastal Campus in New South Wales, Mount Stromlo Observatory 18km southwest of Canberra city in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), North Australia Research Unit campus approximately 15km drive from Darwin city and Siding Spring Observatory also in New South Wales.

Four of Australia's five learned societies are based at ANU—the Australian Academy of Science, the Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and the Australian Academy of Law. The Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science and the National Film and Sound Archive are also located at ANU, while the National Museum of Australia and CSIRO are situated next to the campus.

Why choose ANU Campus Life?

Due to its rank in being the number one university in Australia, ANU boasts of a vibrant, diverse and enriching student community, as it attracts students and scholars from across the globe, giving students the opportunity to have new experiences while having the familiarity of home. ANU also offers a large variety of catered and self-catered student residences and a vibrant campus community that is within easy walking or cycling distance to the city.

ANU has also established relationships with over 170 universities around the world, carrying out academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation and the opportunity for students to study in various other countries, some being- University of Edinburgh (UK), University of California (USA) and University of Auckland (New Zealand). ANU also offers various clubs for students to join as well as a number of volunteering opportunities.

Facilities: Among ANU's modern lecture halls, libraries, laboratories, student residences and administration buildings, visitors and students will find all the conveniences of a small suburb including cafes, bars, supermarkets, child care centres, a news agency, post office and even a medical centre.

Pathways to Study: There are pathway options available to students who would like to study for a coursework degree, but who do not meet the University's academic or English language requirements.

Degree Combinations: ANU offers more degree combinations than any other Australian university! The university also allows its scholars to customize their studies to meet their goals and aspirations, and study two subjects as part of their degree in order to multiply qualifications and increase employability after university
