The Australian National University’s focus on meritorious research and education guarantees that its scholars are in popular demand across the globe and are well-equipped to handle complex contemporary changes.

With its location pointing to its unique history, thanks to the universities’ ties with the Australian Government and its immense contribution in being a resource for the people of Australia. The main campus of ANU is located in Acton, the heart of Australia’s capital city- Canberra, consisting of 358 acres (1.45 km2) of mostly parkland with university buildings landscaped within. There are eight buildings or complexes of buildings currently listed on the Commonwealth Heritage List (CHL) and following the ANU Heritage Study (2012) over 60 more buildings/complexes have been identified as meeting the threshold for listing on the Commonwealth Heritage List. ANU is also reputable for being a sustainable campus owing to more than 10,000 trees on its campus, including over 500 considered to be of exceptional significance because of their age, history or species and over 300 remnant trees predating European occupation of the area.

There are also four other campuses including Kioloa Coastal Campus in New South Wales, Mount Stromlo Observatory 18km southwest of Canberra city in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), North Australia Research Unit campus approximately 15km drive from Darwin city and Siding Spring Observatory also in New South Wales.

Four of Australia's five learned societies are based at ANU—the Australian Academy of Science, the Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and the Australian Academy of Law. The Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science and the National Film and Sound Archive are also located at ANU, while the National Museum of Australia and CSIRO are situated next to the campus.
