The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is a public research university in Sydney, Australia. It was founded in 1988, but its roots date back to the 1870s. The Australian Technology Network, the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities are all members of the university. The UTS City campus is near Central Station and Railway Square, on the southern edge of Sydney's central business district. The UTS Tower, which faces Broadway, is the city campus's focal point. The campus is divided into five distinct precincts. Broadway, Haymarket, and Blackfriars are located on the city campus, while Moore Park and Botany precincts integrate specialist facilities with surrounding industry organisations. The university currently has a student body population of 46,190 students, including over 13,000 international students, and over 4,714 staff members. Architecture, business, built environment, communication, education, design, engineering, international studies, information technology, law, nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, and science are among the 210 postgraduate and 130 undergraduate courses offered by the university.
UTS's growing reputation for forward-thinking research provides real solutions to today's – and tomorrow's – challenges. The university is also well-known for its significant contribution to research. Its research spans a variety of disciplines, including health, data sciences, sustainability, applied economics, social futures, robotics, civil engineering, future work, microbiology, and quantum computation. The Australian Government has benchmarked 100 per cent of UTS' broad fields of research at world standard or higher, and nearly 80 per cent of UTS research has a 'high' impact beyond the academic – the highest proportion in the country. UTS offers undergraduate and postgraduate coursework as well as research degrees through the nine faculties and schools listed below:
The UTS City campus is near Central Station and Railway Square, on the southern outskirts of Sydney's central business district. The UTS Tower, which faces Broadway, is the city campus's focal point. The campus is divided into five distinct precincts. The city campus includes Broadway, Haymarket, and Blackfriars, while Moore Park and Botany precincts integrate specialist facilities with surrounding industry organisations. The UTS City campus is made up of several buildings and venues that house teaching, learning, research, social, and administrative activities. Three precincts of the City campus – Haymarket, Broadway, and Blackfriars – are located at the southern gateway to Sydney's cosmopolitan central business district (CBD) and are surrounded by local attractions. The most recent precincts are located in Moore Park's elite sporting zone and in an industrial park in Botany. The City campus of UTS is easily accessible by train, bus, car, and bike, and parking for cars and bicycles is available. UTS provides a variety of on-campus amenities to its community. Lifts, access ramps, disabled parking, toilets, showers and change rooms, and ATMs are examples of these amenities. These facilities are located throughout campus, and this map shows which facilities are located in which buildings. These specialised UTS units provide information and services to students and staff while also assisting UTS in engaging with the broader community. Faculty offices are located throughout the City campus to assist academic staff and students. The research institutes are critical to UTS's goal of becoming a leader in collaborative research practises. UTS has outstanding researchers and a strong research culture, which contribute to the university's increasingly competitive research profile. On the City campus, there are now dozens of research centres.
