Western Sydney University, formerly the University of Western Sydney, is an Australian highly-ranked public, multi-campus university in the Greater Western region of Sydney, Australia. The university in its current form was founded in 1989 as a federated network university with an amalgamation between the Nepean College of Advanced Education and the Hawkesbury Agricultural College. In 2015, the university underwent a rebranding which resulted in a change in name from the University of Western Sydney to Western Sydney University.  This university has affiliations with the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Australian Medical Council and Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations. It is also associated with reputable organizations such as Innovative Research Universities, Universities Australia and AACSB International. Western Sydney University does not have any core campus but it is a provider of undergraduate, postgraduate, and higher research degrees with campuses in Bankstown, Blacktown, Campbelltown, Hawkesbury, Liverpool, Parramatta, and Penrith. Each campus offers cutting-edge academic, administrative, residential and other student services with all the campuses being easily accessible and extending an array of specialized courses. 

 

Western Sydney University is a closely-knit community of diverse cultures and ethnicities which are represented by 48,500 students from more than 70 countries of the world with the total undergraduate enrolment at the university being 38,827 while 7,123 students are pursuing postgraduate degrees. The university has about 1,675 academic and 1,712 administrative staff members and each of the faculty members are highly knowledgeable and experienced in their respective jobs, ensuring the best support to students. In 2021, it was ranked in the top 300 in the world and 18th in Australia in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

 

Western Sydney University offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in various lucrative fields such as law, medicine, social sciences, psychology, humanities and business and also facilitates online education with courses available on its official website. In 2019, the Board of Trustees approved the establishment of the following Schools from January 2020- School of Health, School of Science, School of Social Sciences, School of Psychology, School of the Built Environment, Architecture and Industrial Design

School of Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences, and School of Engineering. With the concurrent disestablishment of the following existing Schools being the School of Science and Health, School of Social Sciences and Psychology, School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics.

 

Western Sydney university’s library owns a large collection of rare and unique books, journals, research guides, e-books, exam papers, e-journals, databases, etc., related to various subjects. Furthermore, the university offers a wide range of recreation, sports and entertainment facilities to keep the community engaged and relaxed.

 

In 2013 Western Sydney University was successful in obtaining over $5.8 million in grants from the prestigious Australian Research Council for 18 Discovery Projects, placing it 11th out of 40 universities in Australia. The Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment was officially opened in 2012, funded by a $40 million grant from the Australian Government Education Investment Fund. It houses some of the largest and most complex facilities in the world for researching the effects of climate change. The Religion and Society Research Cluster grew out of the Centre for the Study of Contemporary Muslim Studies. It maintains a particular focus on religion, multiculturalism and post-secularism.

Bankstown

Western is a university of the people. That means being where the people are. Campbelltown campus is close to everything that’s great about Western Sydney fantastic cafes and world-class facilities. Take the Hume Highway, and turn off at the Narellan Road exit. You’ll find plenty of discounted parking when you arrive. Western’s on-campus accommodation is a hop, skip and jump from your classroom. It offers community programs, like astronomy nights, talks on astrophysics and engineering, the Engineering Frontiers program for talented high school students, an Aboriginal science literacy program, workshops for science educators, and conferences. It’s free, and everyone is welcome. If you’re studying Podiatry or Traditional Chinese Medicine, Uni Clinic gets you job-ready with supervised, real-world experience in the local community.

Campbelltown

Hawkesbury

The Lithgow site is situated in the Charles Hoskins Memorial Institute, which has undergone substantial refurbishment to become a state-of-the-art community facility known as the Maldhan Ngurr Ngurra Lithgow Transformation Hub. The Lithgow Transformation Hub will act as a collaborative space for community, business, government, education, and industry to come together to explore a wealth of possibilities for the Lithgow region to ensure a vibrant and thriving future consistent with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Hub’s impact will be enhanced through a diverse range of community-based partnerships, projects, events, and outreach activities.

Lithgow Campus

The Ngara Ngura Building, in the heart of Liverpool CBD, provides high quality, technology-rich and flexible teaching and learning spaces. The Ngara Ngura Building is conveniently located adjacent to Westfield Shopping Centre and the Macquarie Plaza and 800m from the Liverpool transport hub. The University built the new library at Liverpool through modelling how the library could complement the curriculum, assessment and activity that could be expected at this exciting new building and state-of-the-art facilities. The library will be a whole floor with silent and flexible spaces for students. Liverpool Campus is located in a major urban centre, providing increased transport connectivity, employment opportunities and access to retail and community amenities such as childcare.

Penrith Campus (Kingswood) is conveniently located next to key public transport for the region. Boasting state of the art library, teaching and gym facilities, Penrith Campus is where you can reach your unlimited potential. Kingswood Campus is on Second Avenue, Kingswood. Nearby main roads are Great Western Highway and Northern Road. Enter Werrington South Campus via Great Western Highway.
